Fight for a Cure - LLS

On May 31, 2014, Crossfit S3 and their members joined in the fight against blood cancer, when they hosted Crossfit: Fight for a Cure to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a part of the Man and Woman of the Year event. With a turnout of over 80 participants the event not only raised necessary funds but also helped spread awareness of LLS. The day hosted 5 competition times, where members completed a 35-minute partner WOD honoring the LLS Charlotte Boy of the Year, Hamilton Grant.

Crossfit for a Cure 35 Minute AMRAP:
800 M Team Run
80 Thrusters (45/35)
80 Burpees
80 KBS (1.5/1.0)

S3 was honored to have Hamilton, and his mother, Meiko attend the event. Hamilton was afflicted with a form of Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 3 but through treatment and the help of LLS, he is now in remission. It was a great experience seeing Hamilton, in his cowboy boots and Crossfit t-shirt, running, rowing and even completing some thrusters throughout the day.

This charitable event raised over $3500 and was organized through S3 member, Stephanie Melish Neuman, Charlotte Woman of the Year Winner. “S3 and it’s members are generous people who consistently show up, give, and participate when it matters most and they do so through the sweat with a smile on their face.”– Stephanie Melish Neuman

*Gem City Crossfit in Dayton, Ohio was a satellite location for this event and had over 25 members participate.
